Resident files lawsuit against Flint City Council member

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

A Flint resident has filed a lawsuit against Flint City Councilwoman Ladel Lewis.

Lewis, who represents the 2nd Ward and currently serves as the vice-president of the council, is being sued by her constituent Beverly Biggs-Leavy for allegedly violating her First Amendment rights during the August 14 council meeting. The lawsuit, which was filed on August 18, is a result of Biggs-Leavy being escorted out of the meeting by police at the request of Lewis and alleges that Lewis has a “personal animus” against Biggs-Leavy, who is also a part of an effort to recall Lewis.

The lawsuit also alleges that Lewis used a needlessly aggressive tone toward her colleagues and the public during the meeting, causing a hostile environment.

Biggs-Leavy is being represented by Lento Law Group.
