The Election Commission meets to discuss recall language filed against 1st Ward Councilman Eric Mays and 4th Ward Councilman Judy Priestly at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11. The meeting takes place at the Genesee County Probate Court, in Judge Jennie E. Barkey’s courtroom.

Meanwhile, recall language was recently submitted against 8th Ward City Councilman Dennis Pfeiffer, on July 6.

A Flint resident submitted the recall language against Pfeiffer, citing Pfeiffer was among the council members who did not attend a special meeting on May 20. The meeting’s purpose was to address Flint’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.

The meeting was called by Mays and 6th Ward Councilwoman Tonya Burns. 3rd Ward Councilman Quincy Murphy and 5th Ward Councilwoman Jerri Winfrey-Carter were also in attendance. 2nd Ward City Councilwoman Ladel Lewis, 4th Ward City Councilwoman Judy Priestley, 7th Ward City Councilwoman Allie Herkenroder and 9th Ward City Councilwoman Eva Worthing were not present, and all have had recall language submitted against them.

On June 27, the recall language submitted against Lewis, Herkenroder and Worthing was approved. Since Herkenroder resigned July 1, the petition to recall her will be thrown out. Recall organizers need to collect signatures equal to 25% of the number of ward voters from the preceding gubernatorial election in order for a recall election to occur.

Murphy, Winfrey-Carter and Burns were the only three Flint City Council members who had not had recall language submitted against them at press time.
