Qualified city residents apply to fill vacancy in city council following Allie Herkenroder’s resignation

The following qualified city of Flint residents have applied to fill the vacancy in the Office of
Council Member – Seventh (7th) Ward:
1. Mercedes Kinnee;
2. Ira Gilbert;
3. Doug Matthews;
4. Candice Mushatt; and
5. Shannon A. Searcy.
Former Seventh (7th) Ward Flint City Council Member Allie Herkenroder resigned from the City

Council effective July 1, 2023.
Pursuant to Flint City Charter §2-410(B)(1), the City Council shall within thirty (30) days appoint
a person having the same qualifications for such office.
The City Council shall consider and appoint one of these individuals to serve as 7th Ward Council
Member BEFORE July 31st. That person shall serve in this capacity until a special election is
scheduled by the City Council, the special election is held, and a candidate is certified as elected.
