Parents, staff to join with local community activist to protest reopening of Genesee County Schools amidst COVID variant threat

Genesee County schools will reopen on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Community Activist Bishop Chris Martin will join local parents, staff, and students of various Genesee County school Districts in protest of reopening Genesee County schools after the holiday break.

The group will also call for the Genesee County Board of Commissioners to reinstate the mask mandate for local school districts.

“The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus is highly transmissible, and schools are not safe right now, for students or staff,” said Bishop Martin. “We are recommending that schools remain closed until Tuesday, January 18th to forecast the impact of the latest COVID surge effectively.”

The group will also call on school districts in Genesee County to provide virtual options for students K-12 until the surge slows down.  Other local officials have been invited and are welcomed to stand in solidarity with parents and staff.

The press conference will take place at 11a.m. Friday, December 31 at Cathedral of Faith Church, 6031 DuPont St., Flint, MI 48505. Bishop Chris Martin serves as Pastor.
