Nominating petitions for the 3rd Ward Flint city council member (with a partial term ending November 2026) election are now available in the Flint City Clerk’s Office (Monday – Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm).
THE DEADLINE FOR FILING NOMINATING PETITIONS WITH THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE FOR 3RDWARD CITY COUNCIL MEMBER IS TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2025, BY 4 P.M.
The 3rd Ward city council member primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with the top two
contenders being placed on the ballot for the 3rd Ward City Council Member general election to be held on
Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Under Michigan Election Law, special elections for city council vacancies follow the district boundaries for
which office holders were elected. Current city council members were elected in November 2021, with this
special election’s partial term ending in November 2026.
Although the City of Flint redrew its ward boundaries in 2022, potential candidates and those signing a petition on his/her behalf must be a resident of the 2021 3rd Ward district or the “old” 3rd Ward boundaries.
Per the Flint City Charter, candidates for this position are required to be a registered elector of the city for one year prior to the filing deadline for the office, a resident of the ward for which they will serve, and they must continue that residency until the end of their term.
Nominating petitions submitted by candidates for the Office of City Council member shall be signed by at least seventy-five (75) registered voters of city who are residents of the ward in which the election is to be held.
