Multi-employer job fair being hosted locally, with unemployment rates remain steady in the single digits with more than ten-thousand jobs available in Flint

FLINT, MI (04/15/2022) Ten-thousand five hundred and thirty-one jobs are available in Flint as of April 13, 2022 (Indeed). The 30.9% unemployment rate recorded in April 2020 seems to be a distant memory considering a 6.8% unemployment rate in the city as of April 2022 (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Although the unemployment rate is continuously declining, roughly twelve thousand job seekers are still in the market for work, and employers are answering their call.

A Multi-Employer Job Fair is being hosted by GST MI Works! from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19 at 711North Saginaw St., Flint, MI. Job seekers that arrive before 1 p.m. will have their resumes reviewed, and they will have a chance to prepare for on-the-spot interviews.

“Most employers are short staffed and are looking to hire individuals immediately,” said Business Services Manager Cindy Thornthwaite.

“Space will be made available for employers to interview any potential candidates on the spot,” Thornthwaite added. “Most employers in attendance currently have multiple openings and are hiring individuals to fill those positions. Several industries will be present and available to speak with candidates such as customer service, construction, transportation, health care and manufacturing. We are optimistic that we can assist the employers to fill these open positions, while connecting job seekers to the great opportunities within the community.”

Job seekers are encouraged to attend this job fair and take advantage of the opportunities that are being offered. Career coaches are ready to help with resume building and mock interviews. They also have resources to help alleviate barriers, such as transportation, and childcare.
