Futures for Frontliners offers Michiganders who worked in essential industries during the April 1-June 30 period but do not have a college degree free tuition to their local community college to pursue an associate degree or a skills certificate on a full-time or part-time basis while they continue to work.
Those without a high school diploma or equivalency are eligible for services to help them prepare for and complete this credential and go on to a community college or job training program. The application period runs through December 31 of this year with enrollment available beginning in January of 2021.
More than 900-plus local frontline workers have been approved and awarded funds to attend Mott Community College (MCC) through the Future for Frontliners program. The initiative provides last-dollar scholarships for essential workers to attend community college tuition-free – including those without a high school diploma or equivalency.
An additional 3,800 frontline applicants to MCC are in pending status with their state application and 1,600 of those are waiting on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) confirmation, according to Jon Calderwood, executive director of enrollment management at MCC.
“We want to help these individuals get through the process to enable them to enroll for the winter semester,” Calderwood said. “We encourage individuals interested in the program, or those who need help with their state of MI and/or Mott CC application, to contact us at (phone) 810-762-0200, (email) futuresforfrontliners@mcc.edu or for financial aid questions financialaid@mcc.edu.”
The deadline to apply for the Futures for Frontliners funding is Dec. 31, 2020.
MCC is also hosting virtual information sessions for those interested in the Futures for Frontliners program.
