Flint, Mich. – McLaren Health Plan announced recently it will offer Medicare Advantage plans to eligible Medicare beneficiaries in 58 counties in Michigan’s lower peninsula starting Jan. 1, 2022.
Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative to Original Medicare. They provide all the benefits of Original Medicare with lower out-of-pocket costs plus Part D coverage for prescription drugs and extra benefits not covered by Original Medicare such as vision, hearing and dental.
“Nearly half of the two million people enrolled in Medicare in Michigan are in a Medicare Advantage plan,” said Nancy Jenkins, president and CEO of McLaren Health Plan. “With our statewide network of hospitals and providers, it made perfect sense for us to expand our product portfolio to include Medicare Advantage and offer an alternative for eligible Medicare beneficiaries who know and trust the McLaren name.”
Medicare’s annual election period (Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 each year) allows Medicare beneficiaries the chance to switch between Medicare Advantage plans and Original Medicare (and add, drop or change to a different Medicare Part D prescription plan). People who are already enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans also have the option to switch to a different Advantage plan or to Original Medicare during the Medicare Advantage open enrollment period, which runs from Jan. 1 to March 31.
