MCC trustees create vocational scholarship program

(FLINT, Mich., Sept. 12, 2024) – At their meeting held on Wednesday, August 28, Mott Community College’s Board of Trustees voted to create a new Trustees’ Vocational Scholarship Program which will allow students who are pursuing a college credential – noncredit or credit – in a vocational subject area to attend MCC up to two years for free.

“This scholarship will also assist with the costs of tools and supplies for students going into skilled trades,” said MCC’s Board Chair Andy Everman.

The Trustees Vocational Scholarship Program will be modeled after the College’s longtime “Trustees’ Leadership Scholarship Award,” which allows one graduating senior from each high school within the college district to attend MCC tuition and fee free for up to two years.

“I am proud to be leading the charge for Mott Community College to extend one vocational scholarship to each school in the Genesee Intermediate School District,” said MCC Board Treasurer Jeff Swanson.

Swanson added: “This will give an opportunity for a student to gain not only theoretical knowledge, but also hands-on experience in the field of their choice,”

The Trustees’ Vocational Scholarship Program will formally launch in winter 2025. Additional details will be shared with the community at that time.
