MCC President named Distinguished Alumni by Texas Woman’s University

Mott Community College (MCC) President Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea has been recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2022 by her alma mater Texas Woman’s University. The Texas Woman’s University Distinguished Alumni Award is given to alumni who have attained prominence in their professions or through their accomplishments within their industries, community or public service.

Dr. Walker-Griffea, who earned her Ph.D. in Child Development from TWU in 2004, said, “I am honored and humbled by this recognition from Texas Woman’s University. Attending TWU for my doctoral degree was the experience that shaped my belief to show care and concern for others is a foundational component of supporting student success. I found at Texas Woman’s University faculty who believed in your capabilities and supported students through graduation. My hope is every student who attends Mott Community College will receive the same type of positive college experience that TWU provided me.”

Walker-Griffea was nominated for the award by MCC Board of Trustees President Anne Figueroa for her approach to leadership and organizational development centered on strengthening the College and its employees through the tenets of servant leadership.

“Dr. Walker-Griffea intentionally engages the campus community in the process of developing shared vision and decision making,” said Figueroa.

The TWU award ceremony was scheduled on the same day in Denton, Texas as the first in-person MCC Commencement since the COVID pandemic began in 2020. The university sent a representative to Flint to present the award during the 2022 MCC Commencement ceremony at Dort Financial Center.
