The Special Flint City Council meeting to be held on Monday, November 18, lasted less than 10 minutes because four members did not show up. The meeting had to be adjourned because of the lack of quorum.
“Many residents of Flint are becoming more and more disappointed in the actions of this city council and the members who fail to show up to work and perform their sworn duties. The City of Flint is making great progress. We have several projects and initiatives lined up, but the actions of council members who refuse to attend their meetings, and move important business matters forward, is putting current and new city services at risk.
On the agenda tonight was a proposal to repave and improve local streets, and other services that would benefit the lives and welfare of Flint residents. Some members of this city council have the worst attendance record in the city’s history. It is sad, and it’s a heavy weight on the people of Flint. They deserve a full city council willing to work for them and the greater good. I want to thank the council members who consistently do show up to work to take care of business, but without a quorum many important business matters remain stalled.”
The Flint City Clerk said all four members who were not present at the Special Meeting did call to let her know they would not be able to make the meeting, and they stated various reasons for their absence.
