Flint, Michigan—Black Lives Matter Flint Grassroots is a community-based organization
that seeks to empower Black individuals, families, and urban communities. They have planned a
three-day Justice for Rayvon protest from November 21 to November 23, 2024.
On November 2, 2024, at approximately 6:34 PM Master Rayvon Shahid, 17, was walking home when he was confronted by the Michigan State Police, and possibly out of fear for his life he ran away. They chased him and ultimately shot and killed him.
Elected leadership has not issued an official statement regarding this tragedy. The Michigan State Police 2nd District Special Investigation Unit is conducting an internal investigation.
Black Lives Matter – Flint stated: “the injustice needs to be acknowledged by the city’s leadership. The family and the community deserve a transparent, impartial, investigation. The bodycam footage and the officers’ involved names must be released. Due to Rayvon being shot in the back while running away, the officers need to be fired, indicted, and arrested.”
The protest dates and times are as follows:
Thursday, November 21, 2024: Michigan State Police 4:00 p.m. – The community will demand police release the officers’ names and body cameras, mandating accountability and full transparency from the department.
Friday, November 22, 2024: City Hall 4:00 p.m. – The community will be demanding that Mayor Sheldon Neeley and Flint City Council members individually and collectively officially address the murder of Rayvon
Shahid and immediately make the details of the Michigan State Police contract with the City of Flint
