Local festivals and events draw in 560K visitors, making a $6.5 mil impact in Genesee County

(Flint, Mich., 08/06/2026) — Locals in Flint & Genesee know that July and August are the busiest times of the year, with festivals and events marking every weekend, sometimes multiple. These local mainstay events don’t just add to the list of things to do for area residents; they are a huge draw for those outside the community.

“This year our local festivals and events in July and August will bring in an estimated $6.5 million in economic impact,” says Amari Steward. “This is impactful, seeing that over 560,000 visitors come to Flint & Genesee during July and August to attend our events, eat at local restaurants and spend their money at our local establishments.”

Visitor spending continues to see an increase in Flint & Genesee year over year, according to reports from the Michigan Economic Development Center. When large events attract new people to visit Genesee County, our region sees a surge in revenue, and that is in part due to the work of Explore Flint & Genesee.

Explore Flint & Genesee is the convention & visitors bureau for Genesee County, contracted by the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, and also a division of the Flint & Genesee Group. Its main goal is to help the success of events coming to the region by connecting them with venues, hotels, transportation, marketing and more. They are the concierge for booked business here in Flint & Genesee and help increase the number of people occupying hotels in Genesee County.

Part of that work is ensuring that large events in Flint & Genesee are successful. Local events coming up for the rest of the summer include:

  • CANUSA Games – Aug. 6-9
  • American Junior Golf Association Randy Wise Junior Open – Aug. 10-14
  • Crim Festival of Races – Aug. 21-22
  • The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren – Aug. 24-30
