Recall petition filed against two Flint Community School Board members

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

Recall petitions have been filed in a Genesee County court against Flint Community School Board Chair Joyce Ellis-McNeal and Laura McIntyre, who currently serves as the board treasurer. The petitions, which will be reviewed by the Genesee County Election Commission on Friday August 12, 2022, both reference a complaint filed against the school board by former board member Anita Steward, who has claimed that she faced racial discrimination while serving on the board, as well as violation of policies.

Niether Ellis-McNeal or McIntyre are up for re-election in this year.

Currently, there are five seats that voters will decide upon in November. If the language is approved, that number will increase to seven, making every single seat up for grabs.

Candidates currently running for Flint Community School Board in the November 2022 election include Linda K. Boose, Claudia Perkins, Lakeisha Tureaud, Emily Doerr, Melody Relerford, Dylan Luna, Carol McIntosh, Chris Del Morone, Audrey Young, Terae King Jr.,Donyele Darrough, Michael Clack, Allen Gilbert, Leslie Haney and Kasey Calvert

The Flint Courier will continue to follow this developing story.
