League of Women Voters of Flint Area opens Voter Outreach Center in north Flint

FLINT, Michigan – The League of Women Voters of the Flint Area has established a Voter Outreach Center in north Flint. Located in the Flint Development Center, 4121 Martin Luther King Avenue, the Voter Outreach Center’s hours are 1–7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with special events on some Saturdays to be determined. Services include informal answering of questions about voting on a walk-in or call-in basis, as well as focus groups, workshops, and events.

The League has two main objectives in opening up the center. The first is to engage with residents to determine reasons for low voter turnout in Flint, particularly in the focus area of north Flint, ZIP codes 48504 and 48505. The second is to develop voter education to respond to the needs of the area.

Don’t miss our Voting: Start to Finish learning session with Inez Brown, Flint City Clerk, on Friday, April 29. Participants can choose to attend one of two planned sessions: 2–3:30 p.m. or 4:30–6 p.m.  The session will begin with “Why Vote?” and will include other important information, such as the Board of Canvassers, election audits, and certification. Details on the voting process, whether in-person or absentee, will be demonstrated. Call 810-766-9772 to sign-up for this free workshop or get further information.

The League of Women Voters of the Flint Area received funding for this project from the Ruth Mott Foundation, which awarded a grant to Metro Community Development as the fiduciary. The Ruth Mott Foundation focuses its grantmaking in north Flint.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. They strive to empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education and litigation, at the local, state, and national levels.
