Kildee announces new federal funding to improve health care access in Genesee, Bay and Saginaw Counties

FLINT—On September 5, Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) announced new federal funding to expand access to affordable health insurance for mid-Michigan families.

The $324,365 federal grant, awarded to Genesee Health Plan (GHP) through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, will support GHP’s work to help Genesee, Saginaw and Bay County residents better understand their health care coverage options and enroll in affordable health insurance.

“Every Michigander should have access to high-quality, affordable health insurance,” said Kildee. “That’s why I am proud to have secured this federal funding for Genesee Health Plan to continue its work to ensure mid-Michigan families get affordable health care coverage.”

As a CMS Navigator since 2019, Genesee Health Plan GHP will continue to provide expertise in educating the community on local, state, and federal health care coverage options and supporting the residents of Genesee, Bay, and Saginaw Counties in Medicare, Medicaid and Marketplace eligibility, enrollment and benefits education,” said GHP President and CEO Jim Milanowski.

“GHP thanks Congressman Kildee for this support, which is especially vital as many residents are facing the possibility of losing their health care coverage amidst the Medicaid re-enrollment process,” added Milanowski. “GHP is there to assist residents in making informed decisions to obtain and maintain healthcare coverage.

Congressman Kildee has long-supported initiatives to expand access to affordable care for Michiganders. In February, Kildee secured over $11 million in federal funding for Great Lakes Bay Health Centers and Hamilton Community Health Network to continue to provide health care services to mid-Michigan families who may not otherwise be able to afford it. In March, Kildee announced new federal funding for Genesee Health System to expand local access to mental health care and substance abuse disorder treatment.
