Partnership will allow recovered items from AMD site to be used to support Habitat mission
FLINT, Mich. — The Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance is partnering with the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity to give a new life to valuable materials from buildings acquired for the compilation of the Advanced Manufacturing District of Genesee County (AMD).
The Alliance is regularly communicating with the local Habitat organization to determine their use for items, including everything from windows to doors to foam board, from buildings that will eventually be part of the 1,000-acre site being prepared to be home to an advanced manufacturer.
Habitat can use those types of materials in its programs and at its Restore, which provides much needed revenue for the organization.
“We’re thrilled to be working with the team at the Alliance about getting access to quality, usable products instead of seeing them go to a landfill,” said Thomas Hutchison, executive director of the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity. “This partnership will be an incredible opportunity for us to collect materials for a variety of our projects on the horizon.”

The Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group, is working with local companies, including Lurvey Construction, to prepare the Mundy Township site to eventually be home to an advanced manufacturer. Such a project will create thousands of new jobs, pump millions of dollars into the local economy and help bring the supply chain back to the United States.
“Our partnership with the local Habitat organization is an example of our efforts to continue Genesee County’s long history of cooperation and collaboration,” said Tyler Rossmaessler, the executive director of the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance. “It is wonderful to be able to work with an organization like Habitat that is dedicated to helping so many in our community by recycling and reusing items that would otherwise end up in landfills.”
Also this month, the Alliance celebrated another important partnership that is bringing young people interested in construction to the AMD to get real-world experience as part of their training in Mott Community College’s Youth Build program.
