FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said a jury has found a 40-year old Flint man guilty of 2nd degree murder and 7 other felonies following a trial in Circuit Court.

Kevin Stubbs Jr. is convicted of killing his 29-year-old girlfriend on Halloween Eve in 2022 following a dispute over her discovery that he was having a secret relationship. In retaliation for certain text messages, prosecutors say Stubbs shot Treasury Causey-Box at her residence at the Midway Square Townhomes (formerly Evergreen Regencies). The victim’s 5-year-old son heard gunshots and went downstairs to find his mother dead on the floor. Stubbs had fled the scene.

The case was investigated by the Major Crime Unit (MCU) comprising detectives from the Michigan State Police and the Flint Police Department. The probe led to Stubbs who was arrested a few days after the = murder. Mobile forensics, witness interviews and state police lab work developed the case against Stubbs.

Prosecutor Leyton applauded the work of the investigators and his trial team: “Kudos to the MCU for putting the evidence together and to trial attorney Sam Fleet for outstanding work. A dangerous killer will now be removed from our community.”

Sentencing before Judge Mark Latchana is July 22. Stubbs faces up to life in prison.
