Community event to include panel and group discussions aiming to expand women’s circles
Flint, MI – In celebration of Women’s History Month, Communities First, Inc. (CFI), a local
nonprofit organization, invites women from across the Genesee County area to attend an event
focused on showing up for themselves and others. The GatHERing: A Place for All Women will
occur on Saturday, March 15 at the Communities First, Inc. office space located at 1110 W.
Bristol Road, Flint, MI, 48507 (the previous Baker College campus). The event is from 11:30
a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Now in its second year, The GatHERing brings together women from diverse backgrounds to
foster connection, shared learning and the creation of lasting relationships. Attendees can expect
an inspiring panel discussion featuring local women leaders, guided breakout groups, interactive
activities and a delicious catered lunch.
“Women’s History Month gives us time to reflect on how we have been living, where we are
now and where we can go,” said Shyreka Sturdivant, a member of The GatHERing committee.
She added: “Self-care is crucial, but so is showing up for each other. By cultivating those connections and
deepening our relationships, we can truly support one another in meaningful ways.”
The GatHERing will explore the challenges women have historically faced, the barriers that continue to hinder their personal growth and self-care, and the future opportunities for building empowering relationships. The event’s goal is to spark deep and sometimes difficult conversations around issues such as race, religion and social status, all with the intent of creating transformative connections that will foster change and personal growth.
“Opportunities for women to come together and have these candid discussions are few and far between,” said Essence Wilson, Chief Strategy Officer of CFI.
Wilson added: “I am proud that Communities First, Inc. can provide a space where women can connect, share and empower one another. It’s an experience that will not only impact individual lives, but also strengthen the bonds within our entire community of women.”
Space is limited, and registration is required to attend. Recommended ticket prices are $10, with a
“pay what you can” option available to ensure accessibility for all. To reserve your spot, please
