Flint, MI, July 8, 2024– Hand of Hope – FLM has received a grant of $20,000 from the Flint Kids Fund of the Foundation for Flint to support the Superpower Summer Program and Cohort Adoption of an additional 10 students, totaling over 60 Flint lives touched by Hand of Hope.
Hand of Hope provides disadvantaged Flint youth with Hope and a Hand to set and achieve goals, while improving academic proficiency that will offer them an opportunity for a future while minimizing the racial disparities in education. Their goal is to provide the support necessary so that KIDS THRIVE, and not just SURVIVE! Hand of Hope helps Flint children with academic support, progress monitoring, goal setting and plans for student success. It also operates a fundraising thrift boutique on Miller Road.
Hand of Hope’s Founder and Executive Director Tiara Blassingame said the support from The Flint Kids Fund will make a huge difference.
“This allows additional children to enter our program and reach their full potential, equipping them to impact their part of society and ultimately changing Flint, one student at a time” said Blassingame. “After the COVID pandemic, more students than ever have needed additional support and now we’ll be able to provide more of it, thanks to the Flint Kids Fund.”
The Foundation for Flint, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, was established in 2016 to assist in Flint’s recovery from the water crisis. A 501(c)3 public charity, the Foundation for Flint raises and distributes resources to serve the long-term health and development needs of Flint children and their families. The Flint Kids Fund has distributed over $15 million since its inception to safeguard the health of Flint children exposed to lead and support interventions that ensure they can lead healthy and productive lives.
