Genesee Intermediate School District to host ribbon cutting ceremony

New pavilion, track and basketball court at Transition Center Complete

FLINT – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new outdoor pavilion, track, and basketball court located at the Transition Center. Attendees will have the chance to hear from the Transition Center principal, assistant superintendent of Special Education and GISD’s superintendent, as well as tour the newly completed outdoor learning space.

WHAT:            Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – New Pavilion, Track, and Basketball Court

WHEN:            Monday, July 29, 2024 | 10:30 a.m.

WHERE:          Genesee ISD Transition Center – 3136 Linden Road, Flint, MI 48507

This new space will provide students with a dedicated area for various educational and recreational activities. Previously, students were limited to using the parking lot for things like walking and playing basketball. It is important for outdoor educational and recreational activities to take place in a safe, efficient and distraction-free environment.

These new additions will enhance the overall learning experience for the students and demonstrate GISD’s commitment to supporting the diverse needs of all students, while providing them with the best possible educational facilities.

“We are thrilled to introduce these outdoor spaces as part of our commitment to creating a well-rounded and inclusive learning environment for our adult students,” stated Jan Cox, Transition Center principal.

Cox added: “These facilities will not only support the educational growth of our students but also their physical, social and overall well-being.”

The need for outdoor learning spaces at the GISD Transition Center was first identified during listening tours with district superintendents. Transition Center staff clearly expressed a need which led to the development of a plan and timeline for the space.
