Genesee Intermediate School District accepting applications for board vacancy

FLINT – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is currently accepting applications from those interested in becoming a member of the GISD Board of Education. A seat was vacated after the unfortunate passing of the Honorable John L. Conover.

GISD provides educational programs and services supporting the 21 local school districts and 14 public school academies in Genesee County. It also operates special education, career and technical education, early childhood and early middle college programming. As a regional service agency, the GISD serves as a liaison between the local school districts, public school academies and the Michigan Department of Education.

The GISD Board of Education will select a candidate to fill the vacated seat in a process that is thorough and open to the public consistent with Revised School Code Section 380.614 and GISD Board of Education Policy 0142.5.

An eligible candidate must be a registered voter who lives within GISD’s 21-school district service area. To be considered for appointment, applicants must submit a one-page letter of application and a one-page resume to the GISD Superintendent’s Office no later than 4 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2023.

 Applications should be addressed to:

Mr. Richard Hill, President

Genesee Intermediate School District Board of Education

2413 West Maple Avenue Flint, MI  48507-3493

All interviews and meetings related to filling the vacant board seat are open to the public. Candidates will be interviewed in person in the Legacy Auditorium at the GISD Erwin L. Davis Education Center, located at 2413 West Maple Avenue in Flint, Michigan. Initial interviews will be scheduled for Wednesday, April 5, 2023. If needed, there will be a second round of interviews held for finalists. GISD Board of Education members will select the new board member immediately after all interviews are completed.

Names of the candidates and a complete schedule of interviews and meetings will be posted once applications have been submitted. Pursuant to the Revised School Code, the newly selected board member will serve the remainder of the vacated term, until June 30, 2023.

Questions or requests for more information regarding this matter may be submitted to Dr. Steven Tunnicliff, superintendent of Genesee Intermediate School District, at 810-591-4403.
