Genesee County students get taste of local government, learn about Genesee Youth Commission opportunity

On Friday, Sept. 17, students from International Academy of Flint will spend the day learning about local government as part of Genesee County Youth Taking Action, a collaborative event coordinated by Michigan 4-H, Flint & Genesee Education & Talent and the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. Over the course of the day, students will meet with county staff/elected officials, practice debating with people who have opposing viewpoints and learn how they can make a positive impact in the county.

The interactive experience serves as a teaser for the Genesee County Youth Commission, which will meet over the course of the 2021-22 school year. The commission will consist of nine students, each representing one of Genesee County’s districts. These students will work with the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, providing youth input on various matters and bringing attention to issues of importance. Applications to participate in the  commission will be released in the near future.
