Genesee County Circuit Court to resume jury trials

On June 8, 2021, the Genesee County Circuit Court will resume jury trials, after receiving permission from the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO), based on a joint local administrative order submitted by the Genesee County Circuit and Probate Courts.

To comply with social distancing and other precautionary measure related to COVID19, jury selection will take place in the Genesee County Administration Building, Harris Auditorium. Once a jury is seated, the trial will be transferred to the courthouse.

In person public access to jury selection is available, but limited based on seating capacity.

In person public access to jury trials is limited based on courtroom capacity and COVID19 restrictions.

Public access to all jury trials will be available by: (1) limited in person access or (2) video streaming, based on courtroom capacity.

The court wishes to acknowledge the assistance of Dr. Pamela Hackert, health officer, Genesee County Health Department, Sheriff Christopher Swanson and the Genesee County Board of Commissioners during the planning phase of a safe return to jury trial operations.

The court is anxious to fully re-engage and begin jury trials. Likewise, every effort will be undertaken to maintain the health and safety of court staff, members of the public and
courtroom participants.
