Flint YMCA Powerlifting Team Won State Championship

On Saturday April 12, 2014 the Flint YMCA Powerlifting team won the American Drug Free Powerlifting Federation State Championship in Lansing, Michigan. All members took first place in their weight class and divisions which consisted of Bench, Squat, and Deadlift. The Championship is noteworthy because all participants are tested for the usage of anabolic steroids before the meet.

It was the first time the Flint YMCA has entered a team in 30 years. The Powerlifting Team is a diverse group of women and men lifters ranging from the ages of 19 to 71 years old. All 10 of the team members were committed to an intense training schedule to prepare themselves for the meet. Several members are world record holders and have been training at the Flint Y for several years.

The Powerlifting Team will be holding a meet of their own at the YMCA Downtown Branch on April 26th. Weigh-in begins at 9:00 am – 10:30 am and lifting begins at 11:30 am. There are two competitions, Bench Press and Rep-Out, and is open to men and women of all ages. Awards will be given to the top three places in multiple divisions and weight classes. Entry fees are $20 if post marked by April 21 and $30 after that. Entries can be mailed to YMCA of Greater Flint, Attention: David Cammon, 411 E Third Street, Flint, MI 48503.
