Flint residents 60 and older to receive a free $10 Visa gift card and two free COVID-19 mitigation masks after completing the 2020 census at ‘Drive Up to Mask Up!’ event

In an effort to encourage and assist city of Flint residents age 60 and older who wish to complete the census, leaders and volunteers with the Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA), Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, United Way of Genesee County and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) are hosting a free “Drive Up to Mask Up!” event in the VAAA’s parking lot. This will be done in partnership with Mayor Sheldon Neeley and the city’s “Be Counted” campaign to promote the 2020 census.

The first 25 visitors to arrive on-site in the parking lot will receive a $10 Visa gift card donated by United Way of Genesee County. In addition, VAAA is distributing COVID-19 mitigation masks courtesy of MDHHS that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis as supplies last.

The event takes place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 in the parking lot of the VAAA.

Recipients must be 60 older to receive two masks per person. Visitors are asked to enter on East Fifth Street and exit on Stevens Street.

Local volunteers and governmental workers will be available to assist citizens who wish to complete the 2020 census. They will have computers for citizens to access the https://my2020census.gov website and complete the census online. To ensure the safety of staff and citizens, hand sanitizers and disinfectants will be available for computer use and participants are asked to wear an appropriate face covering and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

The Valley Area Agency on Aging is located at 225 E. Fifth St.
