The Flint Public Library is re-opening its’ doors for the first time since February 2020 with a fresh new look. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place Thursday May 19, with the soft opening taking place on Friday May 20. The full opening will occur from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday May 21, with entertainment for the community taking place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
The library, which has been a staple in Flint since being founded in 1851, has gone from three rooms available for use by the public-to 19. The rooms vary in size to accompany small groups getting together to study to large groups and conferences. Most rooms can be booked through touch screens located outside of every room.
The children’s area has a story time room, a snack room and even a child-sized bathroom the perfect size for smaller children. The teen room is equipped with comfortable chairs that are perfect for reading or using devices. The library even has a digital learning center and an internet café.
In addition, the Flint Public Library continues to have the second largest local and ancestry room in the state.
Those interested in visiting the Flint Public Library will be happy to find that everyone can have a library card regardless of how young or old and checking out books and materials will be easier than ever with new digital check out stations.
