FLINT, MICHIGAN-When it comes to preventive care, 20% of people do not have a primary care doctor, which leads to delayed screenings and management. Additionally, six in 10 people have a chronic disease they
should be managing. In terms of finances, 22% of people in the U.S. do not have a bank account, and 60% of adults live paycheck to paycheck. Health and financial literacy are important to help strengthen the community.
So, Dr. Aisha Harris of Harris Family Health is partnering with Erika Davis of Teach Me How to Bank to host The Real Talk: Health and Money 101 event at 5 p.m., on April 25 and May 2, at the Flint Public Library (Harris Room).
Finances and economics play an important role in social determinants of health which are the non-medical factors that influence health.
Many residents in Flint and Genesee County have not been to the doctor in years or have not been
protecting or building their money efficiently. The Real Talk: Health and Money 101 event will provide residents with an opportunity to explore their health and finances more and discover ways to improve their quality of life.
‘
The Real Talk: Health and Money 101 will help educate people on common health and finance concerns and help people understand how they can improve their personal health and financial health.
