1st Ward Flint City Councilman Leon El-Alamin is being accused of punching, dragging, choking a woman in Mt. Morris Township on July 10. He faces charges for both assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a felony, and misdemeanor domestic violence.
The Mt. Morris Township Police Department responded to a call from the woman who said she was choked and identified El-Alamin as the perpetrator. According to Shiawasse Scanner, FD and EMS & Genesee County 911call, the woman had locked herself into a bathroom to make the call.
Bruises on her face and marks on her neck were seen by police on the victim’s neck when the police arrived. In addition, the woman said her hair had been pulled by the councilman, who she said pulled portions of her hair out.
Yet, El-Alamin, who was not in the home when police arrived, continues to say he is innocent.

On Monday, July 14, an arrest warrant was issued for the 44-year-old councilman.
Police arrested El-Alamin on Tuesday, July 15, five days after El-Alamin was accused of the assault.
He was housed at the Genesee County Jail while waiting to be arraigned.
Police also discovered an unregistered gun at El-Alamin’s residence during recent investigation. The councilman holds a concealed carry permit, which he made mention of while being questioned when initially being considered for the 1st Ward council seat.
El-Alamin holds the council seat previously held by Councilman Eric Mays. He is the founder and director of the MADE Institute, a nonprofit organization. The organization aims to provide transitional housing and comprehensive programming for at-risk youth and individuals returning from incarceration.
