On September 12, 2022, Flint City Council selected Councilman Dennis Pfeiffer (Ward 8) to be the new council president. The presidency was solidified with a yes vote from Councilwomen Allie Herkenroder (Ward 7), Tonya Burns (Ward 6), Ladel Lewis (Ward 2) and Judy Priestley (Ward 4) and Councilmen Quincy Murphy (Ward 3) and Dennis Pfiffer (Ward 8). Councilman Eric Mays (Ward 1) and Councilwoman Jerri Winfrey-Carter (Ward 5) both abstained. Councilwoman Eva Worthing (Ward 9) was absent for the vote.

Pfeiffer will assume the role until November 2022 when council will elect new officers.  The current seat of council president was originally occupied by First Ward Councilman Eric Mays, who was ousted from the seat by his colleagues in April. Since then, Herkenroder, who serves as the vice-president of the council, assumed the duties.

Council moved forward with selecting a president after a Judge Celeste Bell upheld the council’s decision to remove Mays from his seat as president.
