Flint City Council President Allie Herkenroder has announced that she is resigning from her seat on the city council effective July 1, 2023. Herkenroder made this announcement at the end of a council meeting that took place on June 8. She cited personal and health reasons for her decision.

“There has been a number of consequences happening in my personal life regarding my health that made me come to this decision. This has been months in the making, and this has been a very incredibly difficult decision for me to make” Herkenroder stated in part.

Herkenroder also asked that her constituents in the 7th Ward for patience during the process of her resignation.

Herkeroder was elected to the Flint City Council in November 2021. She began serving as the president of the council a year later in November 2022.

Herkenroder was recently targeted for a recall attempt, after petition language was submitted against her as well as Council Vice President Ladel Lewis from the 2nd Ward and Eva Worthing, the council person from the 9th Ward. Another council person, Judy Ward (4th Ward) also faced the possibility of a recall. However, in a hearing held on June 8, 2023, the Genesee County Election Commission determined that the recall language was not clear and factual and therefore a recall could not proceed.
