Eagle Scout Award Presented To Christian Williams

This date April 19, 2015 with a 100 people in attendance, celebrated the Eagle Scout Award presented to Christian Williams of Flint Township, MI;a sophomore at Carman-Ainsworth High school has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

 A member of Water & Woods Council, charted to VFW Post 3087 and Troop 110, Williams is one of approximately 6 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Boy Scouts of America’s scouting.org.Scouting is an educational program that teaches leadership skills, survival skills, ethical values and character, caring skills, citizenship, and responsibility.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church, related service project to earn his Eagle; Williams at 15, chose to start his Good Turn Personal Care Collection Drive where he collected 3,769 personal care products for the homeless and disadvantage; building 283 kits at the Genesee Village Apartment Club House on June 29, 2014. He was joined by family, friends, U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, and Bishop Bernadel Jefferson of Faith Deliverance Center Church.  Items were donated to non-profit Crossover Downtown Outreach Ministry in Flint, MI, which helped over 300 families.

            Williams has stated he wanted to make a difference in his community by not only providing personal hygiene products but by helping build people’s spirits in Flint, MI.  He says he was overwhelmed by the great response from the community in helping with his vision.

            Williams joins other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them  Dr. Guion Stewart “Guy” Bluford, Jr., an engineer, NASA astronaut, and the first African American in space, Academy Award-winning film director, film producer, and screenwriter Steven Spielberg, Academy Award-winning film director, author and screenwriter Michael Moore.

            Williams is a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Dr. Henry L. Fuller Jr., a Carman-Ainsworth honor roll student, where he is active in drama club, student council, Blue Brigade Marching Band and Impact Percussion Winter Drumline (Linden)
