Davison man charged with threatening UAW president

FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has charged a Davison Township man with two felonies related to threatening text messages he sent to UAW President Shawn Fain.

Zachary David White, 31, is charged with False Report or Threat of Terrorism, a 20-year felony, and False Report or Threat of Bomb/Harmful Device, a 4-year felony.

According to the investigative report from Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, on September 13, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m., White sent Fain a series of threatening text messages to Fain’s cell phone.

“I am not going to second guess Mr. White’s intentions nor am I going to view his messages as idle threats,” said Leyton after announcing the charges. “Such tactics, no matter the reason, are uncalled for, inappropriate, dangerous and against the law

“I want to commend Sheriff Swanson and his team for their immediate attention to this matter and for their thorough investigation in coordination with the security services of the UAW,” added Leyton.

White will be arraigned on the charges in 67th District Court in Flint.
