Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, along with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), will join a congressional delegation attending the Christening Ceremony for the USNS John Lewis tomorrow, Saturday, July 17, 2021, in San Diego, Calif. The christening of a Navy ship named after the former congressman is scheduled on the one-year anniversary of his passing.

Kildee and Lewis were close friends who worked closely together in Congress, including on the Ways and Means Committee. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Lewis hand-picked Kildee to cast his votes by proxy. After his passing, Kildee honored former Congressman John Lewis on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
