On April 4, Congressman Dan Kildee highlighted securing $4 million to help the Genesee County Land Bank demolish dangerous and vacant residential and commercial structures, creating new opportunities for economic development and investment.

This funding is a part of his FY 2023 Community Project Funding Initiative which provides federal funding for local projects that support after-school and cultural enrichment programs for youth, small business development, infrastructure repairs and transportation improvements, economic development projects, substance abuse treatment programs and blight removal.

It is estimated that this funding will help demolish approximately 240-250 vacant properties. The Genesee County Land Bank hopes to start demolitions as soon as this month.
