Grants Will Fund Early Head Start, Child Care Partnership Programs for Local Children
FLINT— Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), announced today $5,059,985 in federal grants to fund Early Head Start education and child care programs for children in Genesee County.
The federal grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), include $2,171,852 for Genesee County and $2,888,133 for Genesee Intermediate School District. The Early Head Start – Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP) initiative promotes infant and toddler development through services that support education, health and family well-being. Programming is administered by local child care centers that offer working families flexible full-day and full-year services. The programs include high quality learning environments for infant-toddler care and education, provisions for diapers and formula, health and developmental screenings, physical and mental health support and family services.
“We need to invest programs like Early Head Start to make sure our children start on a strong path to success,” Kildee said. “Additionally, as we continue to recover from the pandemic, access to high quality and affordable child care is more important than ever. I am proud to announce these grants to fund Early Head Start education and child care in Genesee County. I am grateful to the teachers, staff and volunteers who run these programs.”
Since coming to Congress, Congressman Dan Kildee has been an advocate for federal grants to expand Head Start and Early Head Start services for local children. Also recently, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Kildee announced over $20 million in federal grants for Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Genesee and Saginaw Counties. Additionally, Congressman Kildee supported, and the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed, a seven-bill funding package for Fiscal Year 2022, which included over $12 billion in federal funding for Head Start programs nationwide.
