FLINT, Mich – The City of Flint recently announced plans to rename the Hasselbring Senior Center to the Hasselbring Eric Mays Community and Senior Center. This decision comes as the city prepares to take over operations of the center and wishes to honor the years of service Councilman Eric Mays devoted to Flint. The updated name reflects the center’s community identity and role as both a hub for senior citizens and a resource for the broader community.

“The previous vendor adopted the same name as the center, which caused a high level of confusion,” said Ed Taylor, City of Flint Chief of Staff.

Taylor added: “In an effort to move toward a fresh start, the Hasselbring Eric Mays Community and Senior Center name was proposed. By renaming the facility, we aim to clarify its mission while paying tribute to a local leader who embodied the spirit of service and community.”

The proposed newly named Hasselbring Eric Mays Community and Senior Center will continue to offer a full range of programs including, wellness and fitness activities, educational workshops, recreational programs and community events. Additionally, the center will broaden its outreach to support intergenerational initiatives and serve as a venue for community gatherings.
