Candyland is back-giving kids and enjoyable experience for free

Thousands of pounds of candy is up for grabs at Candyland this Saturday, October 30. The candy explosion returns this year with more than what only one child could dream of: activities, light shows, giveaways, balloon popping, open air inflatables, face painting, an illusionist and more! This event is free and runs from 2 – 6 p.m. at Word of Life Christian Church, located at 460 W. Atherton Rd. in Flint.

“Candyland 2021 is a fun, safe, and interactive outdoor community event that brings thousands of people out to enjoy free activities,” said George Wilkinson, senior pastor, Word of Life Church.

“Of course, the community favorite is candy – this year the amount of candy weighs over 2,000 pounds,” he added. “We’re looking at welcoming over 3500 people to Candyland.”

This event is made possible each year through a partnership between the church and Community Advocates Uplifting Student Excellence (CAUSE), as well as several sponsors who help create the mountain of candy. CAUSE is an organization that believes successful education of students requires educating both their hearts and minds with a diverse and balanced approach.

“The partnership between CAUSE & Word of Life Christian Church allows the opportunity to connect with the church in a different way,” explained  Wilkinson. “Whether we’re giving away candy, TV’s, bikes, or being a listening ear and a smiling face, we want the community to feel our love and support.”

Candyland is free and open to the public, though gifts are appreciated. Monetary gifts will be donated to non-profits in Flint that focus on positive outcomes for youth.

This year’s sponsors include: Taylor Foundation, North Gate, Walgreens, Meijer, Walmart, Hamilton Community Health Network, United Way of Genesee County, Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, Peabody Insurance, McClean Enterprise, Landaal Packaging Systems, Cox Enterprise and McDonald’s.
