Local mentoring organization is recruiting new volunteers to become mentors

January is National Mentoring Month, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County is celebrating current volunteer mentors, also known as Bigs, and is looking to add to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Village by recruiting new volunteer mentors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks to encourage the community to continue to highlight the importance of mentorship throughout the year. More than 150 youth in Genesee County are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. It is imperative, to have volunteers, leaders and influencers from all industries to join this village of support for young people.

Community members can share their thanks for a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County Facebook and Instagram platforms.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has also celebrated National Mentoring Month through days such as I Am A Mentor Day on Jan. 6, which showcased stories from current and former mentors, highlighting their motivation for becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister and their insights on the importance of mentoring youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters also held the 16th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mentoring Inspiration Celebration on the Dr. King Day of Service, with the purpose of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy through the promotion of mentorship and service in our community.
