Annual Kwanzaa Celebration to take place locally Dec. 26 – Jan. 1, 2025

The Annual Kwanzaa Celebration: Practicing the Nguzo Saba (7) Principles of Kwanzaa will be taking place in Flint & Genesee County, December 26, 2024 – January 1, 2025. Daily sessions will be hosted at Flint Odyssey House – Adolescent Center located at 718 Oak St. Flint, MI 48503 and via Zoom bit.ly/Kwanzaa24_25. This event is open to anyone interested in participating or learning more about the infamous Afrikan tradition. Please make yourself available to connect, build and educate the community.
The Nguzo Saba (7 Principles of Kwanzaa) is a set of principles that guide the lives of the Afrikan people. Applying these practices to our daily lives is intended to provide stability, structure, a way of life, and how to succeed. Kwanzaa means “first fruit of the harvest” in the Afrikan language of Kiswalia. Many phrases used in Kwanzaa are in Swahili, which is the language chosen to represent Afrikan heritage.
Kwanzaa was established in 1966 in the midst of the Black Freedom Movement and thus reflects its concern for cultural groundedness in thought and practice, and the unity and self-determination associated with this. It was conceived and established to serve several functions.
All activities will be held everyday at Flint Odyssey House – Adolescent Center.
