Mott Community College Culinary Arts Institute to Host Award-Winning Chef Jimmy Lee Hill for Documentary Screening and Distinguished Chef Dinner

FLINT — Mott Community College’s (MCC) Culinary Arts Institute is set to host a unique two-day event featuring award-winning Chef Jimmy Lee Hill, executive chef and instructor of the acclaimed Food Tech training program at the Lakeland Correctional Facility. The events include a free public screening of the James Beard award-winning documentary, “Coldwater Kitchen,” followed by the annual Distinguished Chef Dinner.

Chef Hill is renowned for dedicating over 30 years to improving education inside Michigan’s correctional system, with his Food Tech program gaining national recognition for its transformative impact on students’ lives. The documentary, “Coldwater Kitchen,” highlights Chef Hill’s remarkable work and features the stories of lives changed through his program.

Part One: Free Documentary Screening

The community is invited to a free screening of “Coldwater Kitchen” on Thursday, December 4. Chef Hill and three of his students, who are featured in the film, will be highlighted, offering viewers an intimate look at the power of culinary education and second chances.

Part Two: Distinguished Chef Dinner

The following evening, guests are invited to an amazing culinary experience at the annual Distinguished Chef Dinner. Chef Hill will curate a spectacular four-course dinner.

When: Friday, December 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

Where: MCC Culinary Arts Institute, 550 South Saginaw St., Flint

Details: Four-course dinner. Valet parking is included.
