February 24th brings the Coldest Night of the Year to the Flint Community

FLINT, Jan 24, 2024 – Shelter of Flint is urging residents to bundle up and join the community for the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser walk on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Mott Community College, 1401 E. Court St, Flint. Check-in starts at 4:00 PM and the walk kicks off at 5:00 PM. This family-friendly winter event supports the homeless, hungry, and hurting in our community.

“As we walk together on this chilly night, we’re not just walking; we’re stepping into the shoes of those enduring a cold Michigan winter outdoors,” Shelter of Flint’s CEO Linda Bielskis explained.

Bielskis  added: “It’s about gaining a real feel for the challenges faced by people in need in our community and making a difference with every step,”

Supporters are encouraged to recruit or join a team of family, friends and coworkers for an evening of community camaraderie while raising vital funds for those in need. The walk will take participants outdoors along a 2km or 5km route. Those who raise over $150 (or $75 for youth) will receive distinctive Coldest Night of the Year beanies to wear as they brave the cold night.

This marks Shelter of Flint’s third year participating in the Coldest Night of the Year, with a fundraising goal of $20,000 to support their efforts in helping the homeless in Genesee County. The event anticipates the participation of around 150 walkers and 20 teams, including Shelter of Flint staff and supporters, braving the cold winter’s night. Following the walk, participants will be treated to a hot bowl of soup from Timothy’s Pub and warm beverages courtesy of Starbucks locations in Flint and Birch Run.

Having served the community for over 40 years, Shelter of Flint relies on the funds raised during the Coldest Night of the Year to support its mission to provide safe housing, independence, and stability to those in need in the community.
