Flint City Council may soon hire a parliamentarian to help facilitate meetings

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton
Flint City Council, widely known for discontention amongst its members, is considering hiring a parliamentarian to facilitate the (often heated) meetings.
A resolution to hire Maurice Henderson was approved in committee but did not pass during the regular committee meeting due to a lack of quorum.
If council eventually approves the resolution as is, Henderson, in expert in formal meeting rules, will provide four hours of training and facilitate three city council meetings following the training. According to the resolution Henderson will receive a base rate of $175 an hour for his services.
Residents have expressed frustration with the constant bickering amongst city council members. Residents expressed their feelings on  December 28, 2023 at a meeting titled the “Raise Your Voice Town Hall”. It was during this event that hundreds of residents encouraged members of council to focus on moving the city forward.
