Flint water pipe deadline looming

Written by Jameca Patrick-Singleton

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, the City of Flint is dangerously close to missing the September 30 deadline for excavating and replacing the remaining lead and galvanized pipes. An estimated 1,900 pipes remain to be addressed. In March of this year, the Flint City Council approved an agreement stating that the project would be completed.

In August of this year, the city council approved a $17.8 million contract for Lakeshore Global Corporation to complete the job.

Since the beginning of pipe replacement in 2016, the city has excavated almost 27,000 pipes and over 10,000 service lines have been replaced.
