By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) will receive $2.2 million in federal funding for the Head Start program, according to Congressman Dan Kildee. The funding will expand Head Start programming into such locations as Carriage Town Ministries, Thelma Buffet Elementary, Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village and other locations throughout the county.

Head Start is a program for children ages birth to age five that prepares low-income children formal education by providing classroom experience, nutrition, and early learning. Thousands of children access the Head Start program annually.
