GEARup2LEAd receives grant from the Flint Kids Fund

GEARup2LEAD has received a grant of $33,000 from the Flint Kids Fund of the Foundation for Flint to support the GearUp2Grow Micro School Program.

The Micro School uses Project Based Learning and Place Based Learning to engage fourth through eighth
grade students in solving real world problems. In this way, students gain critical knowledge and skills through immersing themselves in challenging projects that require research, imagination and
perseverance.

“Our new Micro School Program is the result of rethinking the traditional educational model to better
prepare children for the future,” said Winston Stoody, executive director.

“Unlike most schools, learning at a micro-school is driven by the unique passions, talents, struggles and curiosities of the students,” Stoody added.
