2nd Annual Black Dandelion: Convergent Voice™ Forum Set to Kick off National Poetry Month

Flint, Michigan – Flint Poet Laureate, Semaj Brown partners with The Flint Institute of
Arts to present the 2nd Annual Black Dandelion: Convergent Voice™ BDCV Forum,
“Where Art Meets Poetry.” The BDCV forum will take place on Saturday, April 6,
2024, 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E. Kearsley St., Flint, MI
48503.

The BDCV Forum celebrates the power of words communicated by Brown’s award-
winning poem, “Black Dandelion” through Brown’s learning innovation, PSL/POETRY
AS A SECOND LANGUAGE: THE SEMAJIAN METHOD™. Students from fourth grade,
middle and high school, as well as university professors, and community will share
insights gained from engaging in “Black Dandelion” work.

The Flint Institute of Arts, Department of Education will engage participating students
in collage making and portraiture manipulation through the lens of their responses to
the “Black Dandelion.”

The forum will feature word games, performances, presentations, a short by
international artist Jasmine Murell and a preview of the Black Dandelion
Documentary.

The community is invited to attend this free event. To register call 810-254-2932.
A boxed lunch will be provided to the first 160 people who register for the afternoon
workshop.
