19-year-old Flint man receives prison sentence for shooting a 16-year-old female

Written by Tanya Terry

A 19-year-old Flint man was recently sentenced to four to 10 years in prison after admitting he accidentally shot his girlfriends’ 16-year-old sister.

Jakai Williams admitted that last May he got into an argument with his girlfriend over a bag of marijuana. At the time, the couple was near the intersection of Barbara Drive and Oxley Drive, on the north side of Flint.

Williams said he shot into a car and was aiming for his girlfriend. He missed his girlfriend, however, and ended up shooting her sister.

The sister sustained injuries, but she did survive.

Williams pleaded guilty to four counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and five weapons charges, and he may be eligible for boot camp after serving three or more years in prison.
