WHAT: On Thursday, Oct. 28, YouthQuest, an afterschool program serving K-12 students in Flint and Genesee County, will host a fall harvest party open to the community from 5-7 p.m. at Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary. The event – which will include a variety of games, candy/book giveaways, storytelling, music and resources from community partners – is part of YouthQuest’s participation in Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide rally that aims to highlight the importance of providing afterschool programming for today’s youth.
Now in its 22nd year, Lights On Afterschool is organized by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness and advocacy organization working to ensure that all children have access to quality afterschool programs. More than one million Americans are expected to participate in this year’s rally. To learn more about Lights On Afterschool, visit www.afterschoolalliance.org/loa.cfm.
Through YouthQuest, students participate in engaging activities focused academic support; enrichment; physical fitness and healthy behaviors; nutrition education; youth development and leadership; and family and community engagement.
