Woman charged with shooting in parking lot at International Academy of Flint

FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has charged a Flint woman with three felony
counts related to a shooting that occurred on Monday in the parking lot of the International
Academy of Flint.

Chandra Cole-Weekly, 27, is charged with assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor count of possessing a firearm in a weapon-free school zone after she shot and injured a 30-year-old Flint woman.

According to police investigative reports, Cole-Weekly has been in an ongoing argument with
the victim and her family since January over allegations of a potential criminal matter that is
being investigated by the City of Flint Police Department.

On Monday, May 1, as Cole-Weekly was picking up her child from school at International
Academy of Flint, surveillance video of the school parking lot shows the victim approaching
alongside the passenger side of Cole-Weekly’s vehicle and then stopping and getting out of her
vehicle. The victim then walks toward the front passenger side window of Cole-Weekly’s vehicle
and begins to throw an unknown liquid at Cole-Weekly’s vehicle. At that moment, the
surveillance video shows glass breaking from the passenger side front window and the victim
then gets back in her vehicle and slowly drives away.

Police were dispatched to both the International Academy where they found Cole-Weekly in the
parking lot in her vehicle and to a nearby business where they made contact with the victim who
was suffering from a gunshot wound. Cole-Weekly was arrested at the scene and a firearm
found in her vehicle was secured. The victim was transported to Hurley Medical Center and then
to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

“This was a dangerous situation involving the discharge of a firearm in a school parking lot,”
said Leyton. “While we are very thankful nobody else was injured, the sad truth is that a woman remains in
treatment for a gunshot wound.”

Cole-Weekly will be arraigned in 67th District Court.
